Barron's had a piece last week about the increasing concern that ratings agencies have for NY, NJ, CT, IL, MA, CA etc as more and more debt is piled on general obligation and agency credit. More and more debt as wealthy residents and companies flee rarely ends well.

NY has a lot of big question marks on the Tappan Zee bridge. Costs are unclear, the tolls for the new bridge haven't been revealed, but may exceed $120 one way (which would let Port Authority raise its GWB tolls).

$120 toll for a single crossing (or even two crossings) would be quite spectacular I should think. Who is going to pay that much? That would be over $2400 for four weeks of workday crossings!

Did you mean to say $12?

I always wondered why CSX hasn't looked into a east side of the Hudson TOFC/COFC service.  The line as far as Tarrytown is cleared for multilevels and the avoidance of tolls would be the main marketing attraction.  Terminal cost may be the biggest reason but you could draw traffic out of NY and western Connecticut.

And there's the land where the old GM plant used to be at Tarrytown. If railroad intermodal can't compete with a toll on a single bridge that costs trucks $95-120, that doesn't seem like railroads are a good business model.

The state spent a bundle on the Oak Point connection to facilitate freight into the Bronx.

Even with the NY&A interchange, is there just one daily train to Selkirk?
