Passenger Trains > Train 6 of 18th Stopped in Truckee by WildfireDate: 06/18/17 18:27 Train 6 of 18th Stopped in Truckee by Wildfire Author: daniel3197 I just saw a Truckee CHP facebook photo of a major wildfire in the Lawton NV --Boomtown NV area just west of Reno NV.
This is the reason for the pink "service Disruption" for Train 6 of 18th. fyi their route ahead is Blocked by a Wildfire. afaik the train and town are NOT in any real danger. Live Amtrak map: http://asm.transitdocs.com/ I hope the very very late Train 5 of 16 can safely arrive in Reno NV for those long suffering passengers. That train is running about 17 Hours late (plus). Stay SAFE and SANE out there eveyone , the west is now under summer weather conditions. The Truckee CHP calls this area Gold Ranch NV ( I have never heard that name before, This area has been called Boomtown NV prior to this) https://www.facebook.com/chp.truckee/photos/a.1547549818790317.1073741831.1546974278847871/1922322237979738/?type=3&theater ---Daniel Edited 4 time(s). I have been monitoring the radio traffic from the Truckee area and figured it was a rail line issue possibly. I guess they don't have room in Reno for #6. Poor folks on #5. Thanks Pat South Austin, TX Date: 06/18/17 18:39 Re: Train 6 of 18th TRAPPED in Truckee by Wildfire Author: sptno Never mind, it's west of Reno, that makes sense, I was thinking east of Reno.
I confused. Too much good food for Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to all also. Pat South Austin, TX Date: 06/18/17 20:35 Re: Train 6 of 18th TRAPPED in Truckee by Wildfire Author: daniel3197 Train 6 of 18 now MOVING EAST toward Reno NV as of approx 8:20PM PDT. 6-18-17.
That fire must be controlled enogh to allow the railroad property to reopen. --Daniel Date: 06/18/17 20:40 Re: Train 6 of 18th TRAPPED in Truckee by Wildfire Author: WoodrowStool It is actually all Verdi Nevada. Gold Ranch NV refers to the casino at the NV/CA line, right on I-80 that overlooks the Quilici Ranch road, where the fire is spilling over into, and that's where the two tracks are. You have probably seen many railfan photos taken on Quilici Ranch Road, it is quite the spot coming out of the Truckee River Canyon. Boomtown NV refers to the Boomtown casino, once again right off of I-80 (see a pattern here?) and a few miles to the east of Gold Ranch. The town of Verdi, which is for a rail fan a picture postcard opportunity, is basically in between them.
The word is a couple of guys doing some outdoor target practice may have started the fire - it is all federal land out here, most anything goes.
