Date: 07/07/17 06:26 Re: NYP patrons should find other options Author: Lackawanna484 CBS had some footage of the minor derailment today. And cut in an older interview with Wick Moorman talking about 10 years of deferred critical maintenance. Got to get it done, and then there's more stuff to fix.
I've mentioned before that the message seems to be "six weeks of Hell and tings will be fine" which isn't going to happen. Six weeks of track work, then signals, switches, electric, etc for another 52+ weeks. Date: 07/07/17 07:25 Re: NYP patrons should find other options Author: joemvcnj But, but the NEC is "profitable".
Date: 07/07/17 10:14 Re: NYP patrons should find other options Author: jp1822 Amtrak has allowed NJT and LIRR to operate a ton of trains in/out of NYP over the past 17 years and it's left the physical infrastructure a mess. Both commuter agencies have also received new multilevel coaches, new locomotives, and other equipment. "Pack'em in, shut the doors, and cram them in to NYP" is/was the name of the game! The frequency of trains with their "loads" over the track has certainly not been the best for this crumbling infrastructure. It was never designed for this stress. But the commuter agencies wanted the slots and Amtrak took the money that was waved at them. One can only hope that the summer maintenance blitz will give some relief........
