No. 42 had two engines today
Author: mp109

The eastbound Pennsylvanian no. 42 had two engines today. (Nos. 77 & 94) Apparently the 77 was taken off of no. 30 at Pittsburgh.

Hmm. So they can switch equipment from one train to another at PGH when they want to.

Does the agreement with Pennsylvania have a penalty clause if there's no train due to equipment issues?

And the train went on to break down in the interlocking at Cork (Lancaster) for around an hour or so. Delayed 645 for a little bit.

You get around that by keeping a spare engine in Pittsburgh *, which ought to be done anyway, and may have helped with the combustible P42 situation on Sunday.

Then Amtrak reminds Penn-DOT that there original proposed bill was cut due to network business between the 2 trains, and if you want us to forget that, then we raise Pennsylvaniian's price by $2 mil.

* Ditto for Havre, ABQ, Denver, St Louis, etc.

Did they add another engine at Harrisburg? The 77 Apparently doesn't have ACSES so wouldn't be able to lead on the Keystone line. They usually have two protection engines at Harrisburg,an ACS-64 and a P42DC.
