Acela: How's that Reliability Centered Maintenance working out?

Amtrak initiated a program of Reliability Centered Maintenance for its Acela fleet from the beginning. The idea is that regular, preventive maintenance would address and prveent some larger problems from emerging later. And, as problems happened on one unit, others in the fleet would be checked to assure they are not delayed. Parts are replaced before they break, tear downs of equipment seek cracks or other wear and tear dangers.

Using Amtrak shop employees, the program has been a huge success. Even as the Acela power units approach their 20th birthday. High reliability, even after all the proponents have been executed or departed. The program is widely used in mission critical business like nuclear submarines, commercial and military aircraft, power plants,

Is RCM something Wick Moorman cares about? I've noticed several Acela break downs or limited performance issues in recent months, which suggests RCM is in the rear view mirror, too. It's likely Mr Anderson knows RCM from his airline experience. In the air failures are not generally considered desirable on most airlines.
