If Musk can build all electric automobiles from scratch, build a rocket company which launches and vertically returns a rocket to the launch pad, boring tunnels would be duck soup. Now if a demonstration project is required, gee I wonder where he could bore a twin tube tunnel that needs a twin tube tunnel. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/20/17 11:45 by PennPlat. Not interesting enough; tunnel work's too boring... Date: 07/20/17 12:13 Re: Even higher speed rail NYC-DC Author: Lackawanna484 Must is boring a tunnel in Los Angeles, isn't he?

Also, there is no functioning demonstration. The only one I've seen is a Maglev sled in a vacuum sealed tube that traveled 70 mph. Nothing ground breaking. Date: 07/20/17 19:58 Re: Even higher speed rail NYC-DC Author: cabanillas Lackawanna484 Wrote:

No it's not. It's actually far more difficult, and the difficulty starts with securing the underground property rights to install the tunnel through privately owned property. > Now if a demonstration project is required, gee I > wonder where he could bore a twin tube tunnel that > needs a twin tube tunnel. It will probably have to be a 3 bore tunnel, as the NFPA-130 Fire Code requires some means of egress and emergency access to long tunnels occupied by people. Musk's tunnels won't include benchwall walkways so they will require crosswalks every few hundred feet to a service tunnel as done in the Chunnel. I'd curious how he pressure seals these doors to the emergency tunnel. The Hyperloop has obvious flaws in concept with stations, yards, access/egress, emergency evacuation, passenger comfort vs. g-forces, and more. To say nothing of the biggest flaw - capacity and thus revenue vs. costs. We are talking many tens if not hundreds of billions to tunnel from NYC to DC. It would obviously be cheaper to expand airports or build new airports at $10B a pop and fly supersonic jets between them than to make this tunnel, and the airports would have far more utility.
