I believe the train is called the Super Chief. It's Santa Fe, all the way.

It is NOT called the Super Chief, and for good reason. Ask John Reed (if you could). He could see the writing on the wall very early in the Amtrak era.

Yes, miles of ties are being replaced between La Junta and Trinidad. After that, the westbound trains make good time usually to Glorieta, where hopefully 4 has already passed since there are no in service sidings between there and Domingo. THEN, once on the NMRX, 3 is usually bent over by the NMRX dispatcher infavor of its trains and deadhead moves.

What are the chances of getting one or more of those sidings back into service?

Getting one or more sidings back in service? Little chance and probably horridly expensive for little reason. They are doing track work, would you buy a new car just because you were having a tire fixed on your present vehicle ??? We need some common business sense here.

Flat tires don't last 6 to 12 months. Ridiculous comparison anyway. Besides, I'm sure all the thousands of riders don't mind catching 2 hours of delay for a meet all the time.

OK, maybe it's called the El Capitan, then.

In any case, the Santa Fe went out of business.
