Author: mundo

Folks planning to travel on the Coast line Sept 25 - October 6th, be sure and check with Amtrak for details of service disruptions

Some schedules will have trains LA - Oxnard, then Santa Barbara - Sand Luis Obispo or further north for the Starlight. Bus bridge in-between.

Fri-Sat-Sun Sep 29 - Oct 1 will see service operate normal no bridge work these days.

UP will have a pile driver on scene.

Do not believe any of this is loaded in Computer nor has an alert been issued on web.

Looks like a Tehachapi re-route wasn't a possibility this time around. UP said no way.

I was at Tehachapi a week ago--not very busy.  There seemed to be capacity for 2 trains to re-route.  2 trains, not 20.

Are they going to remove the truss bridge or upgrade the current trestle?

Today's Ventura County Star (vcstar.com) has a short article about the work. One statement is: "Passenger and freight trains will still run during the construction, although delays may occur."

Equipment is positioned on the Ventura siding.

Please, what does "...Cratered." mean?

Union Pacific Railroad personnel will begin construction to replace a bridge north of the Ventura County Fairgrounds Monday night, the company announced.

The work will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Construction involves demolition of existing trestles and trestle replacement, which is scheduled to continue every weeknight through Sept. 30.

Weekend work may be necessary to complete the project on schedule, according to Justin Jacobs, a spokesman for Union Pacific.

Passenger and freight trains will still run during the construction, although delays may occur, Jacobs said.

Because the project will involve demolishing and replacing trestles for the bridge, noise will be audible during construction.

Ah, so this is NOT the bridge over the 101, but over/across the Ventura River.

Although technically from a geographical standpoint, even the bridge over the 101 is North of the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Pending is a couple days detour via the Valley in October for the Starlight.

Otherwise, in September the Starlight should see no delays.
