Sad part is. that now the LA-San Luis Obispo Surfliner 763 and return 796, will be right in same time slot as the Starlight.

So, it's really a loss of a LA-SLO train.

Not sure whats behind it, except for better utilization of equipment. Understand that the low level set will only operate on 761/782 LA-Goleta and no longer be in the LA-San Diego train sets.

I find this hard to follow:

Just tell me. Will there still be the same number of trains between LA and Santa Barbra? or is service reduced?

Probably not an Amtrak decision but rather that of the JPA in So. California that manages the service. Amtrak is the paid operator, not the management of the service.

==================================

Correct. Amtrak makes no decisions on frequency and service levels any
more. They are only a contractor, now. Amtrak can advise, based on
operational rules and technical/practical considerations but the LOSSAN
Corridor agency pulls the strings.

Moving 763 later allows for connections between the LD trains and the Surfliner up to SLO. I think it also provides a better timing for San Diego travel.

Better timing for passengers and better for other aspects of the operation. Remember that a JPA is running the service now, and the JPAs don't care about the schedule or passenger loads of the LD trains, they care only about their own service and passengers. The 763/796 turn will probably suck some local passenger counts off of 11 and 14, but in reality that should just open up more room for longer distance riders.

johnnyremixx I will say that if you're going to copy and paste the information, especially without making any effort to format it so it's easy to read, you may as well at least post a link to the source so people can see it in context.

That makes no sense. 761 still originates in San Diego and the new 782 runs all the way to San Diego. How can the low level set only be utilized LA-Goleta on 761/782? Passengers will have to transfer trains now in LA? That seems to defeat the purpose of the 700 series trains making easy thru connections for passengers traveling further north or south of LA. I'd like to see your source of info on the low level set no longer running to San Diego.

Yes thru passengers on trains 761 and 782 will transfer trainsets in LAX. These trains will have rather excessive dwell times at Union Station.

I wanted to get the information out as it wasn't posted yet. But this for the people who couldn't follow the post. I think the format doesn't view well on a smart phone but on a computer I had no problem

As far I can tell, the schedule has not been released yet. But if you want to see actual train times,try the booking option at Amtrak's website The new schedule seems to loaded in the system. Remember the schedule is in effect OCT 9,2017

Doesn't show that anywhere on the new schedule posted above. Just shows the new trains and where they are originating and terminating. Says passengers who take 784 now can take the new 782. Doesn't say anything about needing to switch trainsets. If the new schedule is for better utilization of trainsets, it would make less sense to do that than the current way.
