Fall Foliage Equipment Move on the NEC
Author: cr2581

In preparation for the upcoming trips up and down the Hudson River, Amtrak moved the stars of the show from Washington to NY in one shot today. The unusual move was photographed as it passed through Bristol, PA this afternoon.

Enjoy !

I guess there's overhead wire in the tunnel connecting Penn Station and the NYC west side line? I thought the empires were operated with DM's using third rail into penn sta? just wondering...

That tunnel has 3rd rail and catenary in case there is loss of 3rd rail power or a dual-mode can't cut over.
Those are dinette cars.
That particular P42 on the head end is the only one that can raise and lower pantographs on the Sprinter by remote control.

That's a very useful feature when they double head, etc.

Yes, all motive power on for the entire trip, regardless of which is in the lead.
