An interesting story about the botched unveiling of Metrolink’s newest power:

Interesting that the article ridiculing the engine was full of typos and bad writing.

Maybe Metrolink should have put an F59 behind the F125, just in case. Then if the F125 broke down, people could marvel how quietly it runs when the protect power propelled the train. It could take awhile before Metrolink can wipe the egg off its face with the commuting (and driving) population.

Boy that Art Leahy sounds like a real charming fellow. Obviously one of those railroad CEOs who clearly understands the operational nuances of the railroad he oversees.

Ouch.
I remember when the first State of CA F59 (#2003, if I recall) was being delivered to Oakland on the point of #14 a small crowd, and some press/TV, waited at 16th Street Station.   Only 20min or so out they had a trespasser strike delaying things for both police reports and a swing through Oakland Yard for tidying up...
When things go wrong, they can really put everyone involved on the spot.
Ouch.

Bellowing at the crew to move the train off a crossing. As if they hadn't thought of that.

Could neither he nor his staff bother to learn the identity of the engineer before arriving on scene?

Go back to bus driving!

Certainly the type of leader who gets the least out of his men.
In the railroad vernacular: "time to put the lead boots on".
Even if I know what was wrong with the equipment, I would play
dumb after that episode. "Playing" dumb has obviously worked
for Mr. Bus Driver's career.

How does this guy keep his job? Only thing more laughable would be if he gathered up a bunch of bystanders and asked them to push on the rear. Besides the moronic commands, look how the guy is dressed... seriously, a red Nike shirt at a visible public event attended by the region's most powerful politicians. Yep, that is the CEO of our rail authority... very unprofessional.

Perhaps he is a friend of Villaraigosa or Garcetti? One can only speculate as to the reach of cronyism in L A politics.

At least Art could have worn a Metrolink-logoed NIKE shirt you would think!

He is wearing a USC supporters shirt. Art is a strong fan of USC athletics.

That's fine but he really should be showing the Metrolink brand especially in a situation like this.

Great if he was on his own personal time or at a sporting event. But being a company official at a company event he had an obligation to be properly professionally dressed in representing Metrolink, not as a sports fan.

Precisely so JST3751! How did this fellow not learn such a basic rule of corporate etiquette?

It makes my head hurt!
