NJT GP40-2 leader at Westfield
Author: PennRailVideos

On this sunny Tuesday morning, Raritan Valley Line commuters are rushing to get onto train 5714 at Waestfield, NJ. I wonder if they even notice the GP40PH-2B #4200 acting as the "cab car" today.

I knew Westfield would be a good spot for this, it's a relatively open shot and I knew the sun would be high enough now to illuminate the nose.

Apparently this morning also, ex-CNJ GP40 #4105 lead 5416 long-hood forward. I did not get to see that.

Also westbound train 5711 pulls into Westfield, led by an ALP-45.

That train set then deadheads west to be train 5902, the 8:32am from Plainfield. It is supposed to be 8 Comet cars, but when I saw it last moth, it had 6 cars. NJT is short cab cars and are cancelling trains left and right every day due to PTC troubles.

NJ Transit was using older cab cars as regular coaches a few months ago. Maybe 5xxx series, with the nose striping.

Nice pictures. The formerly four track main offers some wide vista opportunities.

Nice shot of 5711, run by yours truly! To bad 5416 with the 4105 was having problems, from what the engine house foreman told me it kept shutting down if throttled past notch 4.
