Amtrak: San Jose to Bakersfield via Stockton
Author: casco17

Saturday, 2/17/18, I took a bus-train-bus routing back to L.A. (3912/712/5812).
Cloudless California winter day...here are some pics

1. Capitol Corridor #724 departs San Jose; great to see that heritage SP herald on the bridge
2. CalTrain #423 departing San Jose
3. San Jose Diridon station

4. No light rail trains on this segment, due to track repair Feb. 16-19
5. Bus bays at San Jose station; tracks are to the left
6. Former Livermore station at the bus stop along the way. Station is fenced off and under repair; former WP to the right out of picture.

7. Altamont Pass Rd and former WP bridge as seen from I-580.
Large number of cars on highway due to major wreck on westbound I-580; backup was several miles long.
8. Arrival at Stockton, and a local BNSF freight came through
9. Amtrak 712 arrives at Stockton right on schedule. The former Santa Fe station resembles a fortress, with all the metal grates around it.

10. Grading for future main track south of Stockton
11. Further south, cleanup from a freight derailment that happened last week. I did not get pictures of the cars, which were moved onto the nearby farmland. Parallel Santa Fe Ave. closed for construction crews to work in the area.
12. North of Hanford, grading on the west side of the BNSF for the high speed rail line.

Thanks for looking.

Pretty flimsy "fortress."

One thing Caltrans never managed to accomplish: a replacement location for the Stockton station.
