Anniston, AL platform extension project "paused"

From McClatchy news service via Mass Transit Magazine:

The project would have eliminated "double stops" at this location and expedited baggage handling. Now they are looking at expanding the station parking lot instead.

It's the FRA's grant money and they are the ones that asked the project be "paused."

One can expect to see checked baggage and the baggage car to become history this year.

Why did they waste money on baggage cars anyway, almost all stations on the Crescent route have done away with checked baggage? Big waste of money in my opinion, a combined baggage business coach would have made more sense to me or combine baggage sleeper for the crew.

Actually, they did a change order in the other direction. They cut the baggage-dorms from 25 to 10 and increased straight-baggage cars from 55 to 70. God knows what they were thinking.
