Passenger Trains > What do I do to try and gtl AMTK to put Hot Meals on Trains 29,30

I want to try and get it changed . I get that Amtrak thinks it’s cheaper put still I think passengers Prefer Hot meals . I already sent a email to Richard Anderson ! I will be mailing him a letter on Monday . Any orther things I should be doing ?

Not voting for Republicans helps too...

And you think Democrats are better?

So lets blame the party in power for this. Why not, they get blamed for everything else. Their list of great accomplishments is too long to list here and probably against web site policy. But remember, Amtrak was given record funding by the Republican Congress and signed by the President. Why anyone would vote for one particular party just because they think they are better for Amtrak is beyond reason with so many other important issues facing our country.

Doesn't matter who you vote for, they're in it for themselves. Every one of them talk a big line until they get a seat, then all of a sudden, who are you again?

I think we are probably some distance apart on the political spectrum, but I couldn't agree more with your statement. I would add to that, yes, write your congressman of whatever party,but don't lose faith in the system just because you don't see him/her on CNN or Fox News the next night talking about Amtrak dining policy.

Look who's talking. Over the past eight years you blamed most everything you didn't like on Obama. Sadly though, those in power could give a flip about any of us. They say what they need to to gather votes and then do whatever their big supporters, aka known as campaign contributors, dictate. Sad state of affairs these days and it doesn't matter which party is in office.

Both parties don't care about Amtrak anyway. If they did Amtrak would had new diesel locomotives, new superliner cars, more funding for the long distances routes and add some new routes long time ago. I know there has been talk about purchasing new locomotives or train sets but we shall see. You know we all have been disappointed before and only time will tell.

About politicians --

Ever since the Supreme Court allowed "Citizens United" to stand, bribing politicians has been legal, and corporations are allowed to give as much money as they want to to as many politicians as they want, and cannot be required to disclose how much money they gave to each politicians. So, yes, it is very hard for us ordinary people to have influence over any politician, because, as individuals, we cannot spend more than a corporation on political contributions. But we can when we band together in groups, and the bigger the group, the more influence we can have over our elected officials. "Money talks."

Nonetheless, it is still important for us to contact out elected representatives on this issue, and on others we care about. Giving up is not an option. And pessimism has no survival value.

Lets leave the parties out of this. Has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Over the years Congress has supported Amtrak regardless of party.

Seriously, the parties are not equal in support of Amtrak. Yes, there are members of both parties both for and against Amtrak funding, but you will find a much higher proportion of people against funding of Amtrak on the GOP side. The congressional voting records are out there. Google is your friend. Start with the McClintock amendment, but don't stop there. If you believe the only things worth having are those that are 100 percent self-supporting, you will find much more company on one side of the aisle in DC. Amtrak will never realistically be able to fall into a self-supporting role and maintain a national network of routes, so it will always be up on the chopping block for those that adhere to that principle, plain and simple.

Hot meals back on train nos. 29-30?

After news in the last day, I'd say that is the least of the worries for LDT supporters.
