The regular (Coast) Amtrak crew operates the train under the supervision/direction of freight crews ("pilots") familiar with the valley line. It takes 3 different UP crews to cover the run for each detouring Amtrak train:
1. LA - Bakersfield 2. Bakersfield - Lathrop 3. Lathrop - Oakland Amtrak will have their normal crews on board. I believe they change engineers at Merced and Bakersfield. Not sure on the conductors. Bakersfield only is my guess. Date: 04/25/18 14:46 Re: Tehachapi detour locomotive crew? Author: SanJoaquinEngr The pool freight crews that will be on the train will change at the three named points.
