Cincinnati to be unmanned station
Author: MEKoch

Amtrak announced that Cincinnati will be unmanned soon. Agent was on duty seven days per week from about 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. The station is currently under major renovation for another six plus months.

All Aboard Ohio is asking:
- who will assist passengers in getting to their track in this cavernous station building?
- who will provide security for these middle-of-the-night trains?
- will Amtrak hire a caretaker to meet the trains?
- NO more checked baggage service

Another slap in the face by Amtrak for long distance trains. Their attitude is "screw you" passengers. Amtrak does not know it, but they are in a SERVICE business. Having an agent a major cities like Cincinnati is apparently seen as unnecessary. Is Cleveland next? Or Buffalo? Or?

Its being reported that Cincinnti will have a caretaker 24/7.

Wonder why, when the trains arrived only 1 am - 4 pm. 3x a week for the two trains.

I feel bad for the station personnel at Cincinnati. I hung out at CUT many nights over the years. Shame. A metro area of over 2 million and growing SHOULD have better numbers than it does. The hours the train comes through, the tri-weekly operation, the hilariously slow schedule (Cincinnati-Chicago in 10 hours, or about 32MPH average, Cincinnati-DC in 14.5 hours, about 41MPH) and years of poor on time performance have sadly lead to the dropping numbers in Cincinnati. Southwest adding multiple CVG-BWI and CVG-MDW flights daily did not help any. Cheaper many days and a heck of a lot faster to fly. The numbers in Huntington dropped quite a bit when it was made unstaffed. I'm guessing the same thing will happen in Cincinnati.

You feel bad about Cincinnati staff, what about the staff from 40 stations now and more to come down the road.

Expect soon to see at least one train posted for discontinuance. Those folks count too!

Cincy = 11,382 Boadings + Alightings per year.
If there are 312 trains per year, that's 36.5 per train.

I do not think Propeller head will last long. He is used to making decisions and not getting any backlash. Well that does not happen at Amtrak. He is used to getting his own way and some of the posts I read about his getting mad at a few meetings when asked question he did not like, well he will not be around long.

In 2005I was going from Cincinnati to DC. The Cardinal pulled in, the sleeping car attendant said,"There is no place for your suitcase, you'll have to leave it." I told the ignoramus I would find a place for it, which I did without difficulty. At that time I had only been riding trains for 64 years. No tip for him!
