westbound Empire Builder was struck by motorist early Wed AM, in Eastern North Dakota.

Maybe has a BNSF leader??? Shows 8 1/2 hours late at Williston ND some 300+ mi past the accident location.

7(12) started out with the AMTK 31 and 78. The 31 was too badly
damaged when struck by the vehicle to continue, so it was set out at
Devils Lake and the 78 continued alone to Minot where the BNSF 7408
was added in the lead.

The train will probably be terminated and turn tomorrow in Spokane.
Call the buses!

Guess buses are better than rolling into town 24hrs late like those Via trains do.

When the train is as late as it is now (9 1/2 hours), there isn't enough time to turn
it in Seattle.

The #7 that tangled with the broadside hit in North Dakota has been put into the infamous Service Disruption designation. That happened around Glasgow, MT. Is it due to the fact that it is so darned late and probably turning around at Spokane? It is moving at track speed.

"Crash still under investigation" If you hit the second engine, I am guessing his timing was off a little.

I often take the Builder from the Portland area to Wisconsin to visit my daughters. My worst nightmare is being bussed. So far, it hasn't happened. Once eastbound, I was stuck in a snowdrift for 12 hours and the train was nearly 24 hours late into Wisconsin. But at least we weren't bussed, so I was happy.

Other news reports say the vehicle struck the train between the first and second locomotive and then was dragged into the ditch. Take your pick.

Yes, in North Dakota. A string of hopper cars acted like a snow fence and collected deep drifts, which stopped the train. They tried pulling and pushing it out of the drift with BNSF locomotives. Then they tried bulldozers. Finally, they brought in about 50 men with shovels. That worked. As a Civil Engineer and railfan, I found the whole operation fascinating. The on-board Amtrak staff did a wonderful job keeping us served and happy. And as I said, at least we weren't bussed!
