Capitol & Lake Shore EB Tonight : Running Close

Train status board for Chicago currently shows # 30 is "boarding" as of 9:20 pm. Normal departure time is 6:40 pm.
Also, Lake Shore is shown on the board as departing on time.

Should be some interesting train watching tonight.

#30 left Chicago at 9:15 pm. ETA Toledo 2:02 am, Cleveland 4:02 am and Pittsburgh 6:50 am. Pennsylvanian departs PGH at 7:30 am.

Amtrak train status now showing 4448 "status unavailable."

448 departed 02 mins. late. Estimated arrival times currently expect the train to be only a few minutes late at various stations.

If I were to guess, likely no rested crews account the late arrival of 29. 29's crew is based out of Toledo and takes 30 back. Most crew bases are run with skeleton extra boards, so when this kind of thing happens the trains sit and wait for the crew to get their 8 hours.

Nothing better than sitting in Toledo for hours in the middle of the night waiting for your train to arrive. This time looking like Amtrak incompetence.

Amtrak will simply shrug and say "not our fault, it was an NS incident earlier". That's how victim mentality plays out.

Unfortunately the Capitol arrived Pittsburgh 9:05 am and missed the Pennsylvanian connection.

The train took 2 hrs., 48 mins. to go from Toledo-Cleveland vs, scheduled 1 hr., 56. mins.

Maybe weather caused a problem or there is unusually heavy freight traffic.

How many people, typically, make the Pittsburgh connection?
