Amtrak MOW on NEC

Track 3 at North Philadelphia station on Friday.
The west end of the train had the concrete tie removal and replacement operation. The east end of the train, which I didn't see until Saturday evening while going past on Amtrak train 159, had the rail removal and replacement operation. GP38-3 AMTK 720 had the honors.

#720 (built as CRR #2002) is quite a long way away from where she grew up... Neat catch...

Is there a reason why the ties are being replaced? Thought concrete ties were good to 50 years.

That 720 looks better than many of the P42's.
