The development of Potomac Yards in Alexandria VA has created a long expanse of new retail, office, and residential building. And, a proposed new Metro rail station for these residents and shoppers.

The city manager recently apologized to furious residents when it was revealed an entrance to the Metro station near residential homes has been eliminated from the plans. Entrances in the center of the station and at the other end, nearer shopping have been kept. One council member has already lost an election, and local leaders are scrambling.

Let me guess: the well-connected real estate developers benefited; everybody else got screwed.
