Passenger Trains > Freshly Repainted Metra "Winnebago"

Last week, I shot the Metra 202 pulling out of La Salle St. station on the 5:50 outbound.  The unit had just been released from the Rocket House at 47th St. earlier that day, and this was its first run in the new paint.  Here, it's crossing the St. Charles Air Line and IC Iowa Division at 16th St. in Chicago.

When I was a teenager my Dad used to say that we railfans were really just "paint scheme fans", so I try to keep perspective.  But I have to say that Metra scheme has a little too much going on.  Makes a guy wish for some of the solid colors of the 70s...

I don't know, I rather enjoy the new scheme on these units, but to each, their own.  However, in the interest of "shooting it all," here's a photo of one of them in the "classic" Metra scheme.

Hah! I do what I can.  But really, I only make it back to Chicago a few times a year, and every few months, a few more engines will be repainted.  Soon enough, I'll surely be on the hunt for the few remaining engines in the "old" scheme.  I know it already.
