11 & 14 Between OAK & LAX Today

Anyone know why they're showing a "Service Disruption" notice for the Starlight in both directions?  Thanks.

According to the Amtrak Alerts on the Twitter Website that I looked up ... there was a Vehicle Accident that happened in between Camarillo - Moorpark, and blocked the tracks!!

If it's not one thing, it's another.

A friend took the train based on my recommendation from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Afterwards she said "never again". The train hit a cow near Salinas and was delayed for hours.

The next time a friend asked about taking the train from Sacramento to San Clemente. I recommended an alternative approach: fly to San Diego, and take the Surfliner from there to San Clemente and back. Plenty of coastal views. That family was completely happy.

Another friend was going to Yellowstone, and wanted to take the CZ to Salt Lake City and rent a car. I recommended against that, and suggested a plane. Later, he thanked me for saving his marriage.

These days I'm quite careful in making recommendations.

Tanker truck that overturned on the tracks near Camarillo and resulting hazmat cleanup has resulted in the tracks being closed since this morning.

Specifically:  Private auto Vs. Semi hauling HazMat, with fatalities and a hazmat spill on the ROW.  It’s going to be a lengthy delay.  Wouldn’t surprise me if 11 is turning at SLO for 14.

Capitol Corridor again screwed up yesterday east of MTZ or somewhere. Police activity. It's just easier to drive.

I saw #14 pass Roscoe Blvd in Northridge at about 5:15pm, so it looks like they just held it in LAUPT until it could get by.

Railroad was opened a little before 8 PM this evening.  #14 shows at Moorpark and #11 east of Oxnard at the moment.

Ouch...The HEP on the second unit winding away woke me up at 5:57A as it pulled into EMY. You know you're late when you're on #14 making a daylight stop @ EMY. If the glass is half full, the railroading up the Sacramento River Valley should be a very pretty ride this afternoon.

Oh no. There’s no conspiracy: it’s just ordinary classic unreliability.

SP management was rather incompetent in the 1980s when they refused to run pax trains. They should have said we will be happy to run them, but be prepared to have them run 8 hours late: we just can’t do any better.

So then I take it your view is that it is unreliable to drive a car in Southern Calfiornia becuase the traffic and an accident makes people late. All the time. It must then be also unreliable to drive a car in New York City since it appears that the streets are in almost constant gridlock.
