Former SP Bi-Level Gallery Coaches SOLD
Author: Roadrailer

For many years, three former Southern Pacific ACF Galley Coaches sat in the Port of Pasco (WA) warehouse are with many other passenger cars along with the equipment for the local RR museum.

These cars appear to have quite the past including operating in Alaska:

There always seemed to be a bit of mystery as to the current owners of the equipment, but several months ago they were pictured for sale through Ozark Mountain RailCar.

1) During a cruise through the yards earlier this month, I noted the three cars had moved closer towards the BNSF mainlines.
2) GGMX 3722 (PPCX 3722) #3
3) GGMX 3720, (PPCX 3720) #1

Any ideas of what the new owner has planned for them? Has anyone seen the interior, I imagine because they spent sometime on the ARR the interior has changed.

The interiors are pretty much completely mint, original condition, with the exception of about 4" of dust and dirt on everything.  These cars were never modified or vandalized all these years.  They will be an outstanding addition to the GGRM collection.

When I was in Alaska in 1988, they were being used on the Whittier Shuttle that took automobiles and passengers between the port at Whittier and the main highway on the other side of the mountain (that was before they modified the rail tunnel to allow highway traffic through).  When I rode, the interior was still original SP commuter seating.

Read  at one time some of the Gallery cars in Alaska were scraped. Good to see that some survived. Yes rode them in Whitter AK in 1992.
