Passenger Trains > New PATH Harrison NJ stationDate: 10/23/18 13:29 New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: Lackawanna484 The new station will finally open, following years of delays. As the article says, usual Jersey stuff. Amtrak had a million little changes. The PA chief almost went to jail.
The station will cost $250 million. A quarter of a billion dollars sounds like a lot of money for a 10 car long platform. https://www.nj.com/traffic/index.ssf/2018/10/that_tantalizing_new_path_station_opens_to_commute.html Posted from Android Date: 10/23/18 13:34 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: MEKoch It is NY/NJ where anything in construction costs five times its normal cost. Lots of union overtime; favorable padded contracts to the chosen construction companies with political clout; and, of course, massive cost "over-runs"
Date: 10/23/18 14:41 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: joemvcnj The $250 million was reprogrammed ARC project money of the PA's share. None of the rest of it went to a rail project.
Date: 10/24/18 12:13 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: Dcmcrider That's an obscene amount considering the scope. WMATA's new "infill" station at Potomac Yard in Alexandria is currently budgeted to cost $268 million. Part of it will be funded by developer contributions and a special tax district.
Paul Wilson Arlington, VA Date: 10/24/18 12:24 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: joemvcnj The real estate that is going up in Harrison is amazing. But it seems it gets zero developer and municipal funding from enhanced property tax revenue.
The new Element Hotel right next to the PATH Harrison station usually has higher rates than the Newark Gateway Hilton. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/24/18 12:37 by joemvcnj. Date: 10/24/18 12:58 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: Lackawanna484 joemvcnj Wrote:

I haven't stayed at Element yet. But the Newark Penn Hilton gateway is a tired property. Seriously in a need of a deep renovation. Convenient, but older. Date: 10/24/18 16:58 Re: New PATH Harrison NJ station Author: joemvcnj I stay at the Hilton about 12 years ago and about 4 years ago I thought it was very nice not needing anything.
