New Haven, CT station
Author: OCtrainguy

I recently travelled from Hartford, CT and had a layover in New Haven on a Sunday morning.  While there weren't any Amtrak trains expected for a while, I took the time to check out the station.  Here are a few photos.  The first photo is of the exterior while the second and third are of the waiting area with the clock, train board and architecture/design.   Got a few more to follow.

Continuing the photos in the station.

At the top of the benches, there are model train displays of various New Haven trains.  I think that's a real nice touch.  Here are two examples.

In the last photo, I noticed some switchers on my way up to Hartford, so I took some time to photo them.  Not sure what their duties are in the area.

Those models are cool........but the locals may have a problem with the model shown in photo # 4......which appears to show an SP articulated coach, and an SP parlor-observation car.  Nice for us out west, but............

The paint scheme on that diesel is foobie-licious, too.

So that's where the switcher engines have been hanging out - engine 532 etc. Didn't Gunn buy these and have them refurbished? Have they ever fully been used for what they were intended for? Seems like they are parked more than used.

I believe the model is a 1956-57 ish effort by  by Lionel.  A possible combination of the designs applied
to the three experimental trains that were purchased by the New Haven during that period.

With the wrong leadership running Amtrak and no private cars to switch as an example, these switchers are probably considered surplus.  Who knows?  We need real genuine railroad leadership instead of Anderson and Company.

Is that a Solari Board?

No, it's digital.  The only true Solari "flip" boards left in the Northeast Corridor are the NJT boards at Trenton and Secaucus Jct. The ones are Secaucus are huge.  NJT also has one at Atlantic City, but their service isn't operating there right now.  Even when it is, the board only needs to be flipped once a day.

The switchers' primary function is to power work trains.

They were bought in 1993 from the P&LE, and are used constantly on work trains and various shuffling.
