To John Steinbeck you would be north of San Miguel, no?
Fun composition and title, thanks.

Right- the RR crosses the Salinas here between Bradley and San Miguel, CA.

I’ve probably said it before, but universally unloved as they are, the 500’s somehow just keep plugging along.  Good for them.

Great photo.  Are you officially off the mountain for the season?

Not quite- I’m on my way down to La Paz, Baja to help crew a catamaran back to San Pedro.
So I’ll be “At Sea” for the next few weeks- then back on The Hill ‘till July.

Well, there aren’t many RR subjects on Baja....
There’s a G Scale RR in a restaurant in Bahia Muertos, so maybe that?
I’m hoping to shoot some of the Coast Line trestles in Santa Barbara County from our boat this Summer, but that’s months off yet,

One of the California missions is in San Miguel, not far from the tracks. Apparently, one visitor to the mission remarked that the Franciscan Padres were smart to locate the mission so close to the SP line!

Actually being that close to the railroad is bad for the mission. Adobe brick construction does not like the vibrations from passing trains at all.

Oh, well, I guess I should have provided the context for my remarks. The mission was established in 1797, 100 years or so before the Coast Line was completed. The last mission was established in Sonoma in 1826.
