For Denver, I have a hell of a time remembering whether a particular letter is LRT or commuter rail. I wish they were designated from opposite ends of the alphabet.

What has happened to downtown Denver with rail development is amazing. Look at all the people on the streets on non-9-5 working hours, the dropping building vacancy rates, high rise office buildings and residences being built, the crowds at Union Station on a Sunday at 730am (not for taking train 5).

Denver is an amazing place, the growth is huge.   It's considered a highly desirable place for many millenials.  Lots of oil companies, too.

I rode the light rail out to the terminus on several lines.  You can see the renewal and development at each station.  Very impressive.

It was former Denver mayor and now presidential candidate John Hickenlooper who provided much of the leadership for the FasTracks Initiative which resulted in the current extensive rail network serving the metro Denver area.

Tying the zoning and land use density to the  mass transit lines makes a lot of sense.

They also made Union Station a hub.

Compare that to Salt Lake City that abandoned the Union Pacific depot in their zest to remove all passenger trackage, even though it was walking distance to Temple Square, and built their inter-modal station some distance away, west of the D&RGW depot. Not exactly a lively, thriving location like DUS is. Amtrak is in a glorified trailer.
