Southwest Chief Delays
Author: fredstout

In the past few days #3 has been very late and I am wondering why. Was it storm damage, reroute, equipment problems?

Mostly flood related in Missouri, but yesterday's train got delayed to Naperville.  It might have sat outside of the union station for some mechanical reason?

Engine quit loading. Had to bring a replacement out to it.

Remember, the previous day's #4 got in after 2:00am!

Nos. 3 and 4 are not showing any extreme tardiness tonight as they approach Kansas City. No "bus bridges" are necessary anywhere.

Well, Southwest Chief arrived into KC ontime and left on time 6/4/2019, but then became 3.5 hours late at La Plata and is expected to arrive Chicago at nearly 5.5 hours late. What happened here? Delay due to potential flooding? Mechanical issues and a freight unit had to be added? Something else?

Continual on and off again flooding issues on the Marceline Sub.

Got it! And certainly believe and understand it! I've never seen the flooding as bad as what it was in early May on the Southwest Chief route (east of Kansas City). It can only have gotten worse, and how some of that trackbed is still intact after being a causeway (water on both sides of the tracks) with heavy freights travelling on it........
