Passenger Trains > Very late Amtk 3 at Flagstaff 07/13/2019Date: 07/13/19 08:42 Very late Amtk 3 at Flagstaff 07/13/2019 Author: sptno I was watching the Flagstaff web camera, Virtual Railfan, this morning and saw that the very late Amtk 3 had 2 BNSF freight locomotives on the front followed by the 2 Amkt locomotives.
Interesting to see the least, where did Amtk 3 pick up the BNSF locomotives and for what reason? TIA Pat South Austin, TX Date: 07/13/19 10:22 Re: Very late Amtk 3 at Flagstaff 07/13/2019 Author: fredstout The late #3 this morning went thru La Plata on Thursday about 1/2 hour late and was reported to be 1/2 late out of Kansas City and 6 hours late out of Dodge. Somewhere between Kansas City and Dodge, the Amtrak engine(s) took a dump. Its 11 or so hours late by the time they get to Flagstaff (freight motors had something to do with the delay I am sure) Other explanations?

Shortly after that, that BNSF engine had problems so a second one was put on. Freight engines can't run as fast as passenger locomotives so the train will continue to lose time. North of Las Vegas, NM there is a slow order area due to MOW work which also set the train back.
