Rail construction - Amtrak/Coaster/MTS (San Diego County)
Author: casco17

I rode Amtrak Fullerton-Old Town San Diego round trip to see some of the lineside construction, both for heavy rail and light rail.
I didn't get pictures of the lineside grading near Avery (Laguna Niguel) or in Camp Pendleton.
Southbound train 1566 had plenty of passengers.

1. Grading work at the Carlsbad Poinsettia Coaster station
2. Future MTS light rail bridge near Rose Canyon
3. Future MTS light rail line north of Old Town

4. Coaster at Old Town San Diego.  Coaster (both directions) uses track 3; Amtrak uses track 4, to the right.
5. MTS Sycuan Green Line train - all Green Line trains had the branding sign in the cabs; some also had large wraps
6. Amtrak 1579 approaches Old Town San Diego on a superelevated curve, with lineside signals not yet in service.  At one time only certain Amtrak trains stopped at Old Town; now they all do (except for late night Thruway Buses).  This train was much less crowded.  The singing cafe car attendant was on board:  "It's a lovely day for a train ride!"

7, 8, 9. MTS light rail construction
#1579 was 40 minutes late to Old Town, and continued to lose time as the "meets" were longer than those on the southbound run.
