Springtime 2019 Following of the Metro North M3s
Author: Passfanatic

This past Spring, in anticipation of a possible MNR M3 retirement in the next few years, I decided to make a few trips to Metro North territory to try to get them running. Being that they only run during the week, I was lucky enough to be able to schedule some days off from work to get the M3s running. It looks like they may be around a little longer than I might have thought. The first two shots were taken at Ossining Station on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.
1. Heading northbound toward Croton-Harmon running on a local train.
2. This same trainset that I got northbound is heading back to Grand Central Terminal.

I stopped at Scarborough on the way back and got a picture of a northbound M3 set at the station.

I went to Marble Hill in June and was able to get two sets.
1. This M3 set is heading northbound approaching Marble Hill Station.

2. Southbound M3 Set leaving Marble Hill Station.

Just before Father's Day, I did a trip to the old Kensico Station as well as North White Plains and saw several on this trip.
1. A northbound heading to Southeast is about to pass the former Kensico Station building.

2. This M3 set, the same one in the first picture, heads away from me.

3. Another northbound passing the old Kensico Station.

1. Northbound M3 Set has just crossed Lakeview Avenue Grade Crossing in Valhalla.

The next few pictures were taken at North White Plains Station.

1. This set is about to end its run and head into the yard for the weekend.

2. M3 Set pausing at North White Plains Station-looking north.

A few weeks ago, I photographed the PM rush hour at 125th St Station and saw several M3 sets. Here are pictures of them.

The MN M-3A look new.
The LIRR M-3's look (and run) like hell.

The interiors of the LIRR M3s look very unkempt. It's a blessing though that they only run during the week. I don't know why they have been maintained poorly. The MNR M3s look fine on the inside and aren't too bad on the outside. The one things that I like about the M3s is the railfan window. You can't beat it. I don't look out of it much anymore as a lot of the time when I ride a MNR electric train, I often get M7s and appreciate them a lot.

Still an impressive looking train!  Thanks for posting some East coast commuter action!
