Lamy New Mexico's "Legal Tender" Restaurant to Reopen
Author: Cumbresfan

The Albuquerque Journal has a story about the Legal Tender restaurant and bar reopening. It has been acquired by Allan Affeldt who previoiusly restored the former Harvey House La Posada hotel in Winslow and now is nearing completion with restoration of the Castañeda Hotel in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The hotel, built in 1898, was shuttered for 70 years. In the same deal in which he acquired the Castañeda, Affeldt also took over and upgraded the Plaza Hotel on the historic Las Vegas Plaza. The establishment, which dates from 1884, has been an iffy proposition since it was re-done in the mid-1990s, with various efforts to attract diners, and sometimes dancers, failing to succeed. It is across the street from the Lamy Amtrak station.

AAPRCO is holding their annual convention in ABQ in a couple of weeks (with only a handful of private cars due to Amtrak's 2018 prohibition of special trains) and the only trip is on the Rail Runner to Santa Fe, travel to Lamy on the Santa Fe Southern (also discussed in the article) and lunch at the Legal Tender.

That restriction has not yet been broken but some are optimistic that it will be.

Isn't the Acoma being used in Albuquerque for the past month or so?

The article doesn't have any exterior shots, so...

In an AAPRCO news brief, it mentioned they are negotiating with Amtrak for a convention train next year. Location still not announced.

A few years ago, Amtrak, Santa Fe Southern and the new-to-Santa Fe NM Rail Runner tried a promotional three-railroad round trip starting with the eb SW Chief from Abq to Lamy... then a hop onto  a Santa Fe Southern  train to downtown SFe...then catching a Rail Runner commuter back to Abq.
Unfortunately...rainy Amtrak signal probs  messed it up. But I did get a loco 'fireman' ride back to SFe with SFS engineer friend Ray.

The Legal Tender was, at the time, in one of its shutdown modes, was worth the visit when it was open.
Good luck LT!
