448 Tonight: 2 hrs., 38 mins. to Go 54 miles

Departed Springfield 7:07 pm and arrived Worcester 9:45 pm. A lot of time for such a short distance.
ETA  Boston 10:51 pm. Train left Albany 4:11 pm. It's only 200 miles Albany-Boston.   Anybody know why the train had to go so slow ? TIA

The scheduled 5 hours to go 200 miles is no less atrocious.  You can drive across MA in 3 hours.

Pretty amazing, Amtrak could likely run the Boston section faster by running it to Oak Point in the Bronx, using the Oak Point Link, and then running up the Hudson Line.

You neglect the fact that the hundred miles or so between ALB and SPG are up and down the Berkshire Mountain range, and between Palmer and WOR is a number of sizable hills.  Don't ignore the fact that most of the route between ALB and WOR is single track with a decent amount of freight traffic, too!
