The Coast Starlight from the (ust'a be) wye at Surf CA today.

The wye at Surf has been out of service for years.  The east leg is no longer connected at the far end.  The switch is still intact, but I doubt anyone would dare go out there- the track is seriously going-back-to-god..

Thanks. Actually, it’s the mirror opposite of what I had planned. I wanted to stand in the center of the Santa Ynez River where it meets the ocean and shoot 14 broadside crossing the bridge. But the beach/dune area was closed to protect the nesting Snowy Plover. The closing is managed, and I assume enforced by, the US Air Force’s 30th Space Wing at Vandenberg AFB. Not a group to be trifled with- they probably have the means to back things up, don’t you think?!
So the wye was my emergency backup shot.

The Plovers finish up at the end of September, so I’ll simply return in a couple weeks
