Passenger Trains > 354 and 355: both over hours late tonight

A friend of mine is on 354. The train did ok until Battle Creek. My friend reported that it left Battle Creek and then stopped and then back up to return to the Battle Creek station so it could wait for a crew.

At this point she texted. I looked at Amtrak status maps and saw that 355 had taken a 3 hour delay between Pontiac and Detroit. I believe that 354 waited for 355 to reach Battle Creek. Did the crews swap trains so they could return to Detroit and Chicago?

That looks like what happened.  For some unknown reason, #355 lost 3 hours between Royal Oak and Detroit.  #354 was only about a half hour late into Battle Creek but 3'19" late into Jackson which supports your theory.  Unable to find any news about an accident or incident which delayed #355.  This has been an unbelievably bad summer for timekeeping on this corridor.

Thankfully Interstate 94 is still a viable alternative...
