See the attached, apparent electrical fire in the diner set Harper's Ferry, WV B&O bridge on fire along with other brush fires.

So does this mean they have started cooking the food on the train again?

No, too much yeast and hot sauce on the prepared food they nuked.

Interesting. I saw this train arrive quite late in Washington, but didn't see any damage to the diner on the engineer's side.

I was on this train. We highballed Harper’s Ferry and then stopped abruptly w/ HEP immediately shut down, then we pulled ahead and stopped on the east side of the tunnel. I looked back from the 3009 sleeper ( transition dorm) and waited til the conductor had left to inspect the train while overhearing another crew member’s radio transmission telling her to “bring her Tempilstik”— a small pen that melts when in contact w/ an overheated e bearing. When she was gone, I looked back and saw a large amount of smoke coming from between the diner and the 2nd sleeper and realized that it in no way was that an overheated bearing. Pretty soon, fire and EMS showed up, but it appeared that the crew had extinguished the fire themselves and sporadic announcements were made— all very generic and unspecific w/ the standard “mechanical problems” announcement over the PA. We finally got moving — with no HEP, obviously— and arrived over 4 1/2 hours late— 1 1/2 hours lost due to the fire.

"To ensure that no more of these fires occur, Amtrak will immediately discontinue the use of electricity* on all long distance trains. Millennials who depend on electric power to recharge their devices don't ride these trains anyway, and electric power will continue to be provided on Northeast Corridor trains."

-Richard Anderson, Amtrak president and erstwhile PG&E consultant

* ...not to mention DINERS...

Nice Gene, you forgot to mention they are going to hand out 1 lump of coal to each passenger for the Hibatchis replacing the microwaves.

Oh, also forgot to mention....nothing edible was destroyed in the fire since there was nothing edible in the dining car.

Millenials will be issued solar chargers for hand-held devices. They may be used in the upper level of the Sightseer Lounge.**
