Passenger Trains > Zephyr Has Finally Left ChicagoDate: 11/13/19 19:40 Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: mp16 Train departed 9:30 pm tonight instead of scheduled 2:00 pm. Arrival times at stations are "unknown."
I guess bad weather and some mechanical problems may have caused the delay. Date: 11/13/19 19:55 Re: Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: kevink There was a derailment on the BNSF in Iowa. #5 was supposed to detour via the UP Chicago-Omaha today. Perhaps they held it for the tracks to be restored?
Edited to add, maybe not. I see on Transit Docs that 5 apparently went west on the UP. Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/13/19 19:57 by kevink. Date: 11/14/19 03:15 Re: Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: dan 8pm for denver thurs?
Date: 11/14/19 05:59 Re: Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: Railfan2 how could it arrive in Cedar Rapids at 5 PM if it left Chicago at 10 PM
Date: 11/14/19 06:53 Re: Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: GenePoon At one point it still had an ETA for Naperville even as it was on the C&NW.
Now 10 hrs late at Omaha. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/14/19 06:55 by GenePoon. Date: 11/14/19 10:37 Re: Zephyr Has Finally Left Chicago Author: TAW Railfan2 Wrote:

Passengers get a rare daylight westbound view of Nebraska. Sorry folks! " Nebraska! Its not for Everyone" (our state tourism ad campaign)

Question for AMTK insiders here: any insight as to why the huge delay leaving Chicago? Equipment? BNSF optimism re getting the wreck cleared? Amtrak indecision about rerouting? UP traffic (down considerably compared to the last few years, along with almost every else, but hey, profits are UP!), finding a suitable locomotive and crew, etc.? Something else, combinations? Whatever, hard to believe it took 10 HOURS when the likely necessity of a reroute was known well before train time!
