Passenger Trains > Poor 49(16)Date: 11/16/19 16:57 Poor 49(16) Author: RevRandy Left NYP over 2 hours late and now is stopped north of Harmon with mechanical problems. Going to be a long wait for the 449 passengers whose train arrived Albany 10 minutes early.

Albany 3 hrs. late at 10;06 pm. 449 arrived Albany from Boston 5:44 pm. 49 ETA Buffalo 2:49 am(about 2.5 hrs. late). ETA CHI 55 mins. late, Maybe we could be skeptical about it being a "mere" 55 mins. late. I suspect it will be later than that. How do the passengers from Boston kill time at Albany. ?. I don't envy them.
Too bad the Lake Shore cannot be as good as the NY Central's New England States was. Date: 11/16/19 19:11 Re: Poor 49(16) Author: toledopatch Now 4-1/2 hours down north of Rhinecliff. And yes, Amtrak's projections for how much time a late train will make up before reaching its destination are unfailingly ludicrous, even taking in account their schedule padding.

Michael Fair Royal Oak, MI Date: 11/17/19 02:56 Re: Poor 49(16) Author: andersonb109 449 passengers in Albany could always get a taxi and go out for a decent meal. They certainly won't get one in 49's diner should it ever show up.
Date: 11/17/19 05:52 Re: Poor 49(16) Author: joemvcnj The taxis up there charge per head. I am sure the station snack bar ran out of food.
I wonder how sleeper passengers liked getting their free "dinner" after midnight ? Date: 11/17/19 07:24 Re: Poor 49(16) Author: restricted_speed joemvcnj Wrote:

Last summer, I stayed at East Greenbush - Americas Best Value Inn at 576 Columbia Turnpike for a cheap rate. About 3 miles, the cab fare was $20. It was July 4th, so no weekend/holiday service on that CDTA route. Next morning, of course I took 2 CDTA buses to the staion for $3. Still better than catching the Adirondack in NYPS at 7:15am after lining up for an hour (combined with the Maple Leaf). |
