what's old is new again
Author: dan

The BNSF snow coaches are almost ready, guess they will travel with their own power cars, was wondering if they were going to get their own power units internally, and since they will have baggage power cars room for some stuff .

These are former AT&SF Hi-Level cars right? Did BNSF have these in their inventory already, or were they purchased from Amtrak? Since they are "snow coaches" can BNSF operate them as "summer excursion coaches" too?

They were purchased from Amtrak, when Amtrak had their recent auctions.

They were built with self-contained generators.

Looks like the luggage racks and half the seats were removed.

Oh - so they are the former Hi-Levels that were overhauled for the Kentucky Cardinal and Hearland Flyer. Overhead luggage racks removed and the seats were part of the refurbished sets used in Metroliner service.

How many coaches.   ?  just wondering.

And i had to listen to all the UP lovers tell me that their single caboose snow trains were ample and as good as could be expected.  Nope.  UP is just dumb when it comes to day-to-day operations. IMHO, of course

Huh? UP did this long before BNSF did. Careful about calling people dumb...

Yes, but only for a/c and lighting. As built, they required steam for heating. Of course Amtrak converted to HEP

Do they still have toilets? Did they add a microwave and perhaps a refrigerator? Coffee pot?
