Amtrak deadhead Talgo train move from Beech Grove to Milwaukee today. If it's not out of Beech Grove yet it should be soon.

I assume these will be refurbished for Cascade service?

Probably going to a museum or a dinner train operation.
Maybe to be scrapped?

I really hope so.  Talgo got really screwed in this deal.

Actually, Talgo did not get screwed. The State of Wisconson still had to pay for the 2 trainsets and Talgo also won the right to keep them. Yes, they are for the Cascades.

As one of the article's commenters said, Wisconsin still had to pay again when they bought into the midwest Siemens car consortium.

I think the Talgos would have soon found themselves obsolete even with a short seat pitch as some of the Hiawatha trains now need 7 coaches, unless Talgo could have extended their length. I didn't see the point of them there anyway. The sharp curves are on the north side of Chicago and south side of Milwaukee, where they wouldn't go very fast anyway. The rest of the route is fairly straight.

Ideal for  CASCADES.  As  trains  or  cars to be distributed into existing  trains!!
I believe TALGO is out there strongly  defending its'  safety reputation.  70 mph into a  30 mph  curve  would  pretty much tear up most  equipment.

A poorly-trained operator and a badly negligent operation could tear up anything. No help was needed from badly-designed equipment, as was the case with the Boeing 737 MAX. The Wreck at Dead Man's Curve was in no way Talgo's fault and in their report, NTSB clouded the problems with poor training and corporate irresponsibility which were the true causes.

That's adjustable

WI bought the trains at that length. If they buy additional cars, they can make the trains longer just as with any other equipment. There are similar trains in Europe operating with, if I remember correctly, 20 cars.

The point was Milwaukee-Madison-Minneapolis.

They didn't move today but it looks like they will move within the next day or two.

So are they eventually headed to the Pacific Northwest? Has there truly been a final outcome? A daylight train Seattle to Spokane flows in and out of discussion as well. But right now the equipment need is on the main Pacific Northwest Corridor.

Will this be on the Cardinal or will it get its own slot for the deadhead?

All aboard Washington has wanted one for at least 20 years. Last session, the legislature authorized $250k to study it.

The Series 8 Talgos are for the Seattle/Portland service. All of the 6 version Talgos are either relegated to Oregon or Seattle/Vancouver.

They don't have cafe cars, from what I remember.

In looking at a video of them being moved to Beech Grove in 2014, there are 3 cars that look like they may be snack/cafe cars. There are 3 cab cars, 3 blind end cars, the 3 cafes and 22 coaches.

They could use the two talgo sets to connect Boise to Portland?
