Wow - this is the first in a long time that I've seen a new baggage car up front!

Nice shot of the train leaning into the curve.
Here's a photo of when this train had a baggage car about 20 years ago.  Westbound coming off the Rockville Bridge, June 19, 1987.

Hmmm. That's not a baggage car, but a MHC or M&E car...... Nice catch nonetheless! Love those Amtrak F40s! I didn't know this may have been a fixture on the Pennsylvanian at one time..... Thought the MHC and M&E was only being hauled via the Broadway Limited at this time. Curious as to where this car would have been picked up and dropped, or interchanged. Did it just go to Pittsburgh, or was it interchanged with the Capitol Limited at Pittsburgh......If the later, why not just send it via the Broadway Limited, unless it was bound for an intermediate interchange east of Chicago.......

Good points, mainly that it is an MHC.  I have a similar shot taken the following January with no head-end car, so perhaps this was a one-off move.

Last August there was a thread about baggage cars on the Pennsylvanian just before Amtrak resumed placing them on this train.  Here's a link to that thread stating when baggage cars were previously assigned to the Pennsylvanian along with the low-resolution photo.
