Passenger Trains > Metro-North train hits tractor trailer - Sloatsburg NYDate: 01/21/20 20:49 Metro-North train hits tractor trailer - Sloatsburg NY Author: ErieMain Heard on the news tonight that a Port Jervis line train hit a tractor trailer that got stuck on the tracks in Sloatsburg after trying to make a very tight right turn. This is near the area I grew up in, and given the very unconventional road layout at this crossing, I can see how this can happen to a misguided big rig. Thankfully there were no injuries.

From the video of the crash, the locomotive involved looks like a PL42AC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alstom_PL42AC Brian Date: 01/22/20 08:34 Re: Metro-North train hits tractor trailer - Sloatsburg NY Author: joemvcnj Down in the New Jersey portion of the line, they can't catch a break:

He could never make that turn either way to get back up on 17. Definately lost, should have went back to 7 Lakes Dr. The area is all residential. But its dark and he likely never saw how tight the turns were until he got to where he was. I did not hear of any injuries so replacing the trailer and fixing a few dings on the PL42 is the worst of then thats the best of it.

I agree, having driven through it many times, it can be tough to navigate with several cars going through at once, let alone an 18-wheeler. I'm merely speculating, but he was probably following a GPS which wasn't specifically programmed for truck routes. As you'd mentioned, the biggest casualty is the trailer and some paint on the engine, so this ended about as well as it could have. Posted from iPhone |
