NJT 4200 series Geep on the NJCL in December
Author: OCtrainguy

Consistent motive power on the North Jersey Coast Line for the past several years is either their PL42 or AL45-DP locomotives.  Personally, I am not a fan of either locomotive photography wise.  In December 2019, we had a return of one of the 4200 series Geeps for most of the month.  That gave me some incentive to get out trackside and do some photos.

With yesterday's interpretation of the groundhog seeing his shadow, and meaning an early spring, I am still waiting for winter to fully arrive here at the Jersey Shore.  Fortunately, an early, but very small, snowfall occurred in early December, which is still technically fall.  That set some extra motivation to get trackside on my lunch break on December 2nd.  Onto the photos.

1.  Train 4352 arriving in Manasquan with the cab car leading
2.  Slowing for the station stop
3.  At the station, using a mile marker as a prop

More to follow..

Continuing the photos..

4.  One more from December 2nd
5. On December 4th, the same set is again on train 4352 as it arrives in Manasquan.  I am not sure what the reflective signs are for.
6.  4216 pushing its train out of Mansaquan

A few more to follow..

Last few photos...

7.  On December 6th, the 4216 is pushing train 4335 out of Mansquan
8.  On December 7th, the 4216 was pushing shuttle 4748 to Long Branch. Here's the train just north of the Asbury Park station.

Hope you enjoy the photos!

Nice series! Back in the 80’s, there was a National Geographic special called “Love Those Trains” and one of the segments featured a young woman learning to be an NJT engr on a Geep—perhaps the one in your photos!

It was actually an LIRR geep 38-2.

Very good, sir! Good to know someone remembered the program a little better than I did, too— close but no cigar, this time !
