Passenger Trains > "Winter Sunshine in Chicagoland"Date: 02/08/20 21:20 "Winter Sunshine in Chicagoland" Author: aussiehinz Some passenger activity caught around "MH" Tower yesterday before all the sunshine faded away.1) Amtrak Train #6 backs toward Chicago Union Station.

Randy Lundgren Elgin, TX Date: 02/09/20 06:19 Re: "Winter Sunshine in Chicagoland" Author: aussiehinz All trains that require turning, whether they utilize the south concourse (most all) or north concourse (Empire Builder) use the wyes at 16th Street, a little over a mile south of Union Station, to accomplish that task. The most common procedure is to back south, out toward the curve to the west at 14th Street, continue backing west far enough to clear the signal at Jefferson Street (in front of "MH"), the pull back east and south around the south wye and across the South Branch lift bridge. When the switches are realigned, trains back northward into the servicing area to be cleaned and restocked. They are then ready to be backed into Union Station, properly turned for departure.
