From the AAPRCO Convention train in 2009. Let's share our photos from the window of a train so we can take "virtual trips" in these difficult times.

Rumbling over the bridge is always a great location for a picture and you got a bonus, a beautiful sunrise.
Back in the day, this was a sign that you were just about to arrive at Jacksonville union terminal, once the largest station in South.

Are thier many passengers on the train.

Great shot, enjoy your trip.

Three more in the Jacksonville FL area:

1) The skyline

2) CSX headquarters

3) What you can see today from the train of the former Union Terminal.

Our train was on the Florida East Coast crossing the Saint John's River headed south to FEC's Bowden yard. Then onto Cocoa, Florida for a tour of the NASA launch complex on Cape Canaveral.

Regarding Jacksonville, FL Union Station that was seen above - is the station re-purposed in any way? Anyone else have any pictures or general information about it? Love these old train station monoliths. They were to be the welcome matte for visitors coming into the city....... Some still retain their character and charm, others are well, nothing but glorified subway stations or platforms at best.........

Now called the " Prime Osbourn Convention Center" , Annual train show, Boat shows, Car shows, etc.,etc. Across the street a new Transportation center is being built.

The Terminal became the Convention Center in 1986. There was a multi day celebration around the opening.  The photo is of a poster from Jacksonville Jubilee event that I still have, sorry for the so-so photo but the lighting in the office is terrible this time of day.

Before this, in like 79-80 there were fund raiser events to help fund planning to save the terminal building.  A friend of mine with one of the local neighborhood preservation groups and I would go.  I still have some casino bucks from one of them stashed somewhere.

The fund raisers were an indirect result of the destruction of the original terminal building in a fire.  I was a co-op at the JEA at the time and we went to the roof of the building when one of the guys in our office spotted the smoke out the window.

I had a friend who worked for Amtrak at the time of the closure. He was sent to
Close the terminal down and transfer operations to the new station. The souvenirs he got oh my.
