Amtrak 2010 Cross County Train Trip: Part 4: PDX+EB loop to SEA
Author: Passfanatic

The next two nights, I spent in Portland. This was in September of 2010, I think. I was able to ride the entire MAX system but since I went, the system has expanded. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to ride or railfan WES because of Amtrak Train # 14 being delayed by about 3 hours.
1. Night shot of Downtown Portland with MAX Light Rail in background.

2. MAX Green Line Light Rail bound for Clackamas at Pioneer Courthouse SW 6th St Sta.

3. PDXs Union Sta after Dark. The old Go By Train slogan.

1. Amtrak Coast Starlight Train # 14 leaves Portland Station behind and is on or close to schedule as it heads for Seattle. Next stop is Vancouver, Washington.

2. A Cascades Talgo Consist and Train # 28 sit beside one another at Union Station.

Now my two night stay in Portland has come to an end and I make the trip to Seattle by way of the Builder Circuit-Train # 28 to Spokane where I will switch to Train # 7 in the wee hours of the night.

3. Shortly after leaving PDX on Empire Builder PDX Section Train # 28, we pass a BNSF GP.

2. Taken from the window of Amtrak Train # 7, this is Everett Station.

3. Rear view from Amtrak Train # 7 as we roll along Puget Sound just as we get closer to Seattle.

King Street Station was still in it's 1960's remodel garb, and since then has been restored to it's original glory. It looks like in your photo the drop ceiling panels had been removed, exposing skylights that had been covered up. Today the place looks fantasstic.
