Amtrak 2010 Cross County Train Trip: Part 5: SEA+CS:SEA-PDX
Author: Passfanatic

I spent two nights in Seattle after having gotten off Amtrak Train # 7 there.

1. Amtrak Cascades Train # 513, being led by P42 # 181, is only seconds away from entering a tunnel that will take it beneath the skyscrapers of Downtown Seattle, and end up at King Street Station. The train is designated for Portland, Oregon. A BNSF intermodel train passes in the other direction. Shot was taken from Pike Street terrace overpass.

2. Branching away from trains but still considered public transportation-ferries. I am also a ferry buff. No trip to Seattle is ever complete for a public transportation buff a ferry ride isn't involved. This is one of the Washington State DOT Ferries approaching the dock in Downtown Seattle. I took this picture from a Washington State Ferry that was heading to Bremerton.

3. Sounder Bilevels in King Street Yard in Seattle.

The Monorail is almost 60 years old! It was built for the 1962 World's Fair. There had been talk for years of expanding it to other parts of Seattle, and a voter initiative had even been approved, and right-of-ways were starting to be purchased, when the whole thing came to a halt. Now light rail is going in, and the scenic highlights of Seattle will now be viewed from underground!
