Train Dispatching in the Curfew Age
Author: Englewood

Just wondering......

Chicago is under a 9pm to 6am curfew until further notice.
I read that Atlanta has something similar.
How does that affect the city center dispatching offices?
NS recently relocated to Atlanta;  In Chicago, Metra is on south Canal and
Amtrak is in CUS. Special "papers" for night shift to show the PD or
stay overnight in the office?

I worked for a few years in a city center DS office (29th floor).
I know that those locations are very pleasant for the 40/5 suits who
like to give tours showing off their monkeys in cages but it SUCKS for
those who must fill the seats in positions that are staffed 24/7.

"Essential Employees" such as railroaders were issued letters for this type of situation at the beginning of the COVID19 quarantines.    BSB

Essential employees like police, fire, medical, utility workers and transportation workers are normally exempt.

For those of you have had to drive during curfew hours have you ever been stopped by law enforcement officer during the curfew?

The BN Seattle dispatchers offic was next to the Kingdome. There wasn't an official curfew, but for "traffic control" the cops wouldn't let cars into the area near the end of a football game and for a while after, only out. We argued with them every football night...then drove right past There were lots of us, after explaining to them what we did and why we had to be there, who were threatened with arrest for failure to obey orders. One guy told the cop I guess you'll have to start shooting and drove off. The cops hassled us but never escalated beyond threats.

This incident finally fixed that: Date: 06/22/15 13:48 Murderer on a Train Author: TAW

Eventually, that was fully rectified by the office being moved a mile south of the Kingdome.
