Proposed EMD Amtrak Loco Help
Author: SD80MACfan

Some time back I ran across a concept drawing for an EMD locomotive that was proposed to Amtrak in the 1990s. I thought I had saved it for future reference but I'm unable to locate it. I remember the locomotive designation being higher than the F69, possibly F100. The design had the angles of the F69 but the windshield was sloped back further, similar to the slope of the RTL Turboliners. Google searches have been unsucessful. Does anyone else remember this locomotive or have examples of the proposed artwork?

I think the loco is called the F125.  Look on the passenger board because Metrolink in Southern California has about 25 of them in operation.

The proposal and artwork were for the post-F40 era it was to be called the F70PH.  GE was a better financier...

Hmm... That is similar to the one that I saw, but this concept art is definitely different from the one I saw. Thanks for the info.

I know now which one you're talking about.  I belive it was called the F125 but it wasn't anything close to what we have as an F-125 now.  It was in the traditional Amtrak paint.
Here's a rendering of something much similar in Metra paint..I'll have to see if I can dig that one up.

When the Via LRC locomotives built by MLW proved unreliable, GMD proposed a replacement. I recall a press release with an image in the Canadian newspapers showing the proposed GMD locomotive but it showed an entire train and only a very basic and small depiction of the locomotives.

Instead, Via ordered more F40PH's. The problem with the LRC locomotives was the Alco 251 engine and the radiators, basically the same problem the MLW freight locomotives had.
Did Via ever contemplate putting an EMD 645 or 710 in them?

That one is much more similar to the one I saw, but had the Amtrak Phase III scheme on it.
